It’s time for the 2015 Big Eastern, friends.
Now in its second year as a combined event, the Big Eastern Barista Competition brings together coffee talent from the North and South Eastern regions. This weekend features open eligibility for competitors from the American states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.
In cultural terms this has become one of our very favorite events on the annual coffee competition calendar. Big Eastern is where some of America’s biggest coffee stars come out to shine, including a flotilla of talent making its way down the east coast from New York City, Boston, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. It’s also a reason to visit the lovely city of Durham, North Carolina, and its nearby city siblings of Raleigh and Chapel Hill, all three home to excellent coffee bars, regional delicacies, and kind people.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21st
10:30am – 5:00pm NE & SE Barista Competition: Day 1
A Film About Coffee Screening — Hosted by Caravela Coffee Co-Sponsored by Duke University Working Group for Environment in Latin America (WGELA) North Carolina Latin American Film Festival.
Location: Duke Environment Hall. Buy Tickets: $10 (all proceeds going to Coffee Kids)
Roundtrip transportation by Greenway Transit departing the Durham Convention Center at 6:00pm and 6:30pm and departing Environment Hall at the Nicholas School of the Environment at 8:30pm and 9:00pm.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22nd
11:30 – 5:30 NE & SE Barista Competition: Day 2
8:00 – Midnight Big Eastern Party at Motorco FEATURING DJ PEZ & DJ SPRUDGE!!!
Open to public, 21+, slap bracelet invites available @ Counter Culture’s Big Eastern merch table.
