Name: Vaiva Maskovaite

Company: Caravan Coffee Roasters (London)

Country: Lithuania

Number of years as a barista: 2.5

Number of competitions competed in: 2
Lithuanian Barista Championship: 1st (2014), 1st (2015)

Competition Coffee: It’s a blend. 60% La Esperanza, Nicaragua (washed), 20% Rocko Mountain Reserve, Ethiopia (natural), 20% Betulia, Colombia (washed).

Signature Beverage: It’s dedicated to texture. One layer of agave syrup infused with dehydrated nectarines and a pinch of malic acid. The top layer is a cold brewed La Esperanza (Nicaragua) blended with xanthan gum. Served in chilled soapstone.

Secret Weapon: My face but it ain’t no secret, though.

Playlist: It starts with Sia – Elastic Heart and finishes with Sigma ft. Paloma Faith – Changing.

Routine Theme: Blends in the single origin era. I’ll be talking about three main factors in specialty blending – taste, texture and flavor.

Total Practice Hours: I started working on it in November.

Coach/Coaches: Steven “Steveminski” Hall. He’s a Kiwi, and he puts with me and my personality during the early morning practice. He even traveled to my motherland to support me! He brings in broccoli for lunch and steams it with a coffee machine steamer – pure genius!

Fashion: A black dress, linen apron with bright jade blue straps. Maybe a giraffe onesie at the after-party!

Additional Notes: I’m a Lithuanian who lives in London and works for a Kiwi company.

Why do you think you’d make a great World Barista Champion?
We need a lady champion. Guys just don’t have enough sass. Joking! But, I do believe  having a lady champion would be a game changer and allow for another powerful voice to represent us in this growing industry.
