Jeremy Challender is the 2016 UK Brewers Cup Champion

It started with heats in Brighton, got real at yesterday’s semi-finals, and came down to today’s event: the UK Brewers Cup Finals. The field was pared to just six competitors giving it one final go at taking home the crown.

Single estate farms, shaken coffees, the Sudan Rume: there were a litany of beautiful coffees and inventive brew methods gracing the Finals stage here at the London Coffee Festival, all of which we catalogued in today’s recap.

But the day belonged to Jeremy Challender of Prufrock Coffee, the freshly crowned 2016 UK Brewers Cup Champion! Mr. Challender’s memorable performance included a pressurized immersion brew thanks to some vigorous thermos shaking, a technique he concocted with this year’s runner up at the World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship, Martin Hudak of Slovakia. His coffee was the exceptionally rare JavaNica varietal, grown in Bolivia and roasted by Has Bean Coffee.

We’re more than a little jealous of the judges getting to taste all these beautiful coffees, but we’re not envious of their very difficult task of deciding between them. But they were somehow able to do just that. The results for the top 3 finishers are as follows:

1. Jeremy Challender – Prufrock Coffee

2. Alison Bell – BLK Coffee

3. Anthony Piper – Climpson & Sons

Congratulations again to Jeremy Challender of Prufrock Coffee, and to all six finalists. We’ll see you in Dublin!
