Motoyoshi, Wong, and Silmi talk about what makes a cafe’s design thoughtful in terms of both inclusivity and accessibility. Alice Wong, a resident of San Francisco’s Mission District, talks about navigating cafe spaces as someone in a wheelchair, from the pitfalls of closed doors without automated openers, to iPads attached to out-of-reach counters, to ADA bathrooms that serve as cafe storage rather than their intended use. Nabeel Silmi, the founder of Grand Coffee in the Mission District, talks about creating a cafe environemnt that’s welcoming to everyone in his neighborhood.
