Wow wow wow does Day Two of the Sumner Qualifying Event look to be a can’t miss day of competition. There are no less than five previous US Coffee Championships Finalists taking the stage today with more Semi-Finalists than I can count; you’d be forgiven if you thought you slept through both Qualifying Events and woke up in time for the start of nationals after looking at the list of competitors.
But if the continued success of newcomers over the past few years of competition have taught us anything, it’s that there are no gimmes here, even for the most seasoned competitors. For every all-but-sure-thing Andrea Allen, there’s a Sam Neely just around the corner waiting to burst onto the scene and into the Finals in their first comp. It is truly anyone’s game.
